Bundaberg Co-design Project Community Meeting
Preventing Youth Sexual Violence and Abuse in Bundaberg
A Project Funded by the Queensland Government (Department of Justice and Attorney-General)
The Queensland Government, through the Department of Justice and Attorney-General, has funded a place-based project to prevent youth sexual violence and abuse (YSVA) in Bundaberg. The aim of this project is to promote safe and respectful relationships, strengthen personal and online safety, prevent YSVA, and enhance the capacity of local organisations to identify and respond to YSVA.
Youth-Led Approach
This co-design project is guided by a youth-led approach, supported by the community. We believe that young people are best placed to identify the needs and priorities of their peers, and that their voices should be central to the development of solutions.
Community Engagement
Queensland Government (Department of Justice and Attorney-General) have worked with over 258 people in Bundaberg, including over 70 young people, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people, Elders, community members, and local organisations to develop a local Community Action Plan. This plan outlines the key strategies and initiatives that will help keep young people in Bundaberg safe.
Draft Action Plan Feedback
Queensland Government (Department of Justice and Attorney-General) are now seeking feedback on the draft Action Plan from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in Bundaberg. Rose and Syd from DJAG will be visiting Bundaberg from 3 to 7 June 2024 to gather feedback on the draft Action Plan. They would like to ensure that the draft Action Plan reflects Bundaberg's needs and priorities and relevant responses.
