Curtis Island Park Closure – 5–14 Nov 2025

Dear Community Members,

The Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service (QPWS) will be conducting a Pest Management Program. Foothold trapping activities and ground shooting activities will be conducted on Curtis Island National Park, Curtis Island Conservation Park, Curtis Island State Forest and Southend Conservation Park between Wednesday 5th to Friday 14th of November 2025.

The target species of this program are Foxes, Wild Dogs, Feral Pigs and Feral Cats.

Due to live firing, consequently, these areas will be closed to the public during this period and access is prohibited including Multi Use Trails 1 & 2.

Access will remain available along the main roads, campgrounds, and Southend Beach below the high-water mark.

Gates to the area will be locked. Access will have signage.

QPWS will install warning signs in these areas to inform residents and visitors that traps and firearms will be in use along the beach, dunes, and other parts of Southend Conversation Park and Northern section of park.

These measures are being implemented to protect Flatback Turtle and Yellow Chat habitats and to reduce predation by feral animals, including foxes, wild dogs, feral cats and feral pigs. We apologise for any inconvenience during this period and appreciate your understanding as we work to ensure the ongoing protection of Curtis Island’s native flora and fauna.

If you have any questions regarding the matter, please reply to this email or call Tony Townsend on 0400 381 244 or send an email to SGBR@detsi.qld.gov.au
